Introduction

Hi, my name is Fatima Nawaz. I am 17 years old and currently in AS. I'm really into arts and sketching, so I have a good insight into creativity and extracting meaning from abstract material. This is also the reason why I've chosen media studies. I think I'll get to explore a lot about my own capabilities in virtually presenting my ideas and challenge my own imaginations with it. I think a lot of my concepts are still abstract so I'm willing to learn more and develop some tangible skills by studying this subject.

We do experience exposure to media as consumers, as in social media users, movie-goers, etc., in our daily lives, but getting an opportunity to experience creating such content from a producer's perspective is very exciting to me. My other A level subjects, Psychology and Sociology have conceptually a lot in common with this subject. I like blogging and writing online articles too as a hobby, so that kind of deepens my interest in this field. In a world where marketing and advertisement is a way to get any career flourishing and media is a big part of it, I'm sure this knowledge and the skills I'll be developing would be very helpful in any field or career I'll choose.

I will be creating 2 magazines in my AS. The first will be a school magazine and the second would be a real-life magazine of my own choice of genre. I'll then move on to choose from the video assignments for A2.

I'm looking forward to creating my own content in these 2 years of studying media studies. I'll share all my ideas, inspirations and the details of my work on this blog. Thank you!

Preliminary Task: School Magazine - Final Product

Marketing Kit

For the marketing of my magazine I have created a marketing kit.

Planning: Codes and Conventions

Application of codes and conventions on the genre. The above magazine follows the conventions of a teen beauty magazine. The model used for the main image is a young girl in a casual dress-up. The subtle make-up and bubbly expressions denote the innocence and youthfulness that teen girls have. The codes and conventions followed in the above magazine are bold, over the top styling, heavy make-up and extravagant props. The models in this genre usually take up looks that no woman would generally wear, so it's not necessarily a representation of women rather a creative portrayal of beauty as art.
