Research: Magazine Size

There is no standard size for a magazine…different magazines have different approaches to the size.

SAMPLING OF MAGAZINE SIZES:

Readers Digest  is approximately 14 cm × 21 cm (5 1⁄2 by 8 1⁄4 inches)

People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Money Magazine ,Fortune Magazine are 7 7⁄8” x 10 7⁄16” Final Trim Size.

But magazines such as Rolling Stone Magazine, Magazines published by Condé Nast:, WIRED, GQ, Traveler, Bon Appétit, Vogue are a standard 8” x 10 7⁄8” Final Trim Size.

Moreover, there is a term called Bleeding which means extending the background beyond the edge lines so when they are printed and trimmed, then the background wouldn’t be compromised.

Marketing Kit

For the marketing of my magazine I have created a marketing kit.

Planning: Codes and Conventions

Application of codes and conventions on the genre. The above magazine follows the conventions of a teen beauty magazine. The model used for the main image is a young girl in a casual dress-up. The subtle make-up and bubbly expressions denote the innocence and youthfulness that teen girls have. The codes and conventions followed in the above magazine are bold, over the top styling, heavy make-up and extravagant props. The models in this genre usually take up looks that no woman would generally wear, so it's not necessarily a representation of women rather a creative portrayal of beauty as art.
